Autumn 1950

11th September - Re-open after Summer Vacation with 50 new children. Timetable prepared for 7 forms, number on roll 104 boys, 124 girls.

12th September - Mr. Riches of County Architects Department is surveying the field to the south which is to become a playing field, with a proposed new roadway from Suffield Park to Norwich Road.

3rd October - Rev. Blythe, Northrepps (& a school governor) conducted Harvest Thanksgiving. Averil Stanton read the lesson & Thomas Golden played the piano. Flowers & gifts distributed to old people of Cromer & Nat. Children’s Home, Sheringham.

9th October - Mr. Trollope & Mr. Wadkin begin 6 weeks teaching practice.

23rd October - At assembly badges presented to first school prefects. John Lee (Head Boy) Averil Stanton (Head Girl), Vernon Church, Margaret Harris, James Bacon, Patricia Clarks, Eric Craske, Bridget Bridges, Thomas Golden, Patricia Kirby. Games Captains Brian Everitt & Maureen Madgett.

9th November - Mr. Lynn demonstrated how to ‘joint’ a carcass of lamb to leavers in DS room. Three parents complain their girls had to clean out drains.

14th November - Investigation of water seeping through into the ‘Green Room’ under the stage.

5th December - School’s first Speech Day. All pupils & 80 parents & friends filled the hall. Mr. H Moore, late Chief Education officer gave a talk and presented prizes to Ralph Kirk, Jean Davies, Pamela Reaney, Thomas Golden, Fred Chadwick, Jacqueline Smith, David Amis, Jill Witham, Jill Coleman & Christopher Frostick.

12th December - School Nativity Play "We have seen His Star", six performances seen by 1200 people. Heavy snow accounted for smaller audiences than would have been possible. 120 dressed characters with Miss King ‘mainly’ in charge.

18th December - Triangular Inter Secondary Modern Schools Gymnastic Display at Wymondham. Event first suggested by Mr. Osborne, PE Master.

19th December - School Christmas Party in Hall, after special meal in School Canteen - Roast Beef, Sprouts, Potatoes Mashed & Grilled, & Mince Tart.

20th December - Opening of Christmas Post Box & delivery of individual cards & parcels.
Spring 1951

10th January - Re-open after Christmas Vacation. No. on books - 223

22nd January - Half-Yearly Examinations begin. Attendance low (72%) due to heavy colds.

26th January - Talk on Life in the Air Force by Squadron Leader Hamilton James, to about 25 boy ‘leavers’.

26th - 28th January
- Gym teams visit Ilford for competition with Loxford M.S.School (Loxford 750. Cromer 665).

30th January - Tommy Golden made Head Boy, Pam Reaney and George Clements made Prefects.

3rd February - School Net Ball Team played in Interschool Tournament at Thorpe.

12th February - Headmaster attended memorial service to Lady Suffield in Cromer Church

14th February - Rev. Hughes gave a talk to the whole school on the United Nations Organisation

16th February - School attends a staff ‘Twenty Questions’ during the last period of the afternoon

5th March - A lecture on Norwich Cathedral with film strip photos given by the Rev. A.G. Thurlow, Precentor, to the whole school from 3.10 - 4.05pm.

16th March - Entertainment by boys & girls from the choir, junior & senior girls gym teams, and boys gym team. An hour & a halfs’ programme given in the hall to an audience of mainly children, in aid of the school ‘Trampoline Fund’

17th March - Meeting in the school hall to form a Parent Teacher Association.

19th March - Sheila Bolton and Derek Everitt offered places at the Summer Technical Course, at Wymondham.

21st March - End of term. 40 minute Palm Sunday - Easter Sunday service in Hall.

Miss P. Reynolds, Girls PT., leaves today to get married to Mr. Spencely.
Summer 1951

11th April - Re-open after Easter Vacation. Timetable re-arranged to allow for 1 less teacher, Miss Reynolds having not been replaced.

24th April - A party of 20 boys & girls cycle out to West Runton with Miss King to visit church.

3rd May - Official Opening of Festival of Britain. Various broadcasts of the Service laid on to several classrooms and whole school assembled in Hall to listen to the King’s Speech at 12noon "Forward with Resolution". (Presumably this is where the school motto came from?)

8th May - Boys Brigade Festival of Britain Run - one old boy, Alan Barnard acted as Bearer of the Easter Message to H.M. the King, starting from Cromer; one old boy Roy Nockels and a present scholar Fred Baxter acted as escort. The boys of the School Brass Band played "God Save the King" in the Church Square (first public appearance).

12th May - Visit by Loxford (Ilford) S.M. School Gym Team; Loxford won by 1054 to 1049 points.

18th May - Valerie Bumfrey & Olive Bolton nominated as prefects. Margaret Harris appointed as Head Girl to serve in absence of Avril Stanton.

24th May - Empire Day. Special service conducted by Headmaster, with Brass Band playing "God Save the King" and "Praise My Soul". Then School’s Annual Sports, Tabloid Sports in morning (stopped by heavy rain) and Athletic Sports in afternoon in ideal weather. Both trophies won by the Red Team.

9th June
- Jubilee of Cromer Pier 1901-1951, re-opening ceremony performed by Sir Edmund Bacon, Head Boy & Girl (Thomas Golden & Margaret Harris) attended.

27th June - School trip to Festival of Britain South Bank Exhibition, 114 boys & girls, 7 staff.

2nd July - School Cricket Team plays Buxton Red House, result Cromer 79, Red House 85.

19th July
- Track Suits, subscribed by staff & pupils presented to Bunty Madgett & Eliz. Gibbons who go to national Sports at Southampton today.

21st July - School Garden Fete on school premises, total takings £80.

23rd July - School Leavers Tea, Discussion & Service. Parents invited but none came.

27th July
- End of term, work continues on creating new playing field.
